Over the past twenty years, Upkar Jheeta has become recognised as a visionary in creating social value, dedicating his career to developing infrastructure that strengthens and uplifts communities. His experience spans the private, public and VCSE sectors, enabling him to navigate the connections between government policy, clinical priorities and community-led initiatives. In the voluntary sector, he played a central role in launching Birmingham’s first Free Schools, balancing Department for Education requirements with local aspirations. He went on to design a social enterprise pharmacy that showed how clinical services can thrive commercially while reinvesting profits into local health. Upkar now applies this diverse experience in the NHS, leading strategic transformation of mental health services and tackling complex public health and civic challenges with fresh, sustainable solutions.
